They say cleanliness is next to godliness, but, well, when in the Marché des Enfants Rouges, things are a bit rougher around the edges — but the food is heavenly. I was in the City of Lights this summer and got to spend some time with a friend who lives just around the corner from this beautiful enclosed market, and she introduced me to one of her favorite Paris secrets — “crepes from this guy at the market.”
I know, I know, how very specific, right? But I assure you, go there and I’m sure you’ll find the man I’m talking about. A bit of wild hair and a ramshackle sensibility about him, the man knows how to make a mean crepe. But mean this man is not — he was super friendly and worked with us, and the little French my friend and I spoke, to make us a delicious lunch.
The menu is wide and varied, and I wound up choosing the vegetarian. Chock full of everything from tomato to lemon zest, it’s a trip out of the ordinary. Be warned, though, it’s massive. And massively delicious.
Enjoy your crepes, I insist, in the park just down the street — the perfect atmosphere to indulge in an inexpensive lunch.
