Grandma’s buttercream frosting is one of my favorites, and the closest I’ve come to finding it outside of Grandma’s kitchen is at Butter Lane. A tiny bakery in the East Village, their cupcakes are delightful. Rich and moist, the cake is just right — none of that dry, crumbly stuff here. And their frosting. Don’t even get me started. Not too sugary, this is dense, velvety, and delicious. And the portions are just right. There are loads of flavors, and my favorite is the traditional chocolate with butter cream, but my friend swears by the tiramisu with marscapone on top. It’s $3 for a cupcake, which is perfect for a post-dinner follow up.
