The Bowery Hotel is at the top of my list when it comes to style, character, and perfect execution on detail. It’s a beautifully rendered experience, one that delivers right down to the lobby bar.
The last time I was here it was a cold and miserable day in New York — howling winds, sleet, the whole nine yards of wicked winter weather. But I was meeting a friend so I threw on a hat and scarf and made my way over to the hotel, holding myself up against the winds.
“This better be worth it,” I thought to myself, as I stepped inside the hotel. And it totally was. The interior is very old world meets modern comfort — roaring fireplaces, tons of deep and lush seating, dim lighting, and a well-appointed, shabby chic interior. Warm, inviting, and totally transports you to an entirely different mindset.
My friend was waiting at the bar, which is at the back of the main lobby area, and is something like I imagine old Hollywood looked like, way back in the pre-prohibition days. The bar is very well appointed, and the menu has a wide variety of options. I had the bartender whip up a spicy margarita, which was the perfect antidote for the weather outside.
