Vivoli

Gelato and I, well, let’s just say we’re old friends. There’s no better place for gelato than Italy, and I’ve sampled flavors in a variety of gelaterias up and down the country, from Venice to Sicily. For me, Vivoli reigns supreme. A small shop in Florence, it has an old world feel that you don’t really find these days. The gelato is always freshly made, and there’s usually a new flavor waiting to be tasted. The strawberry is the best in Italy as far as I’m concerned, though the riso, or rice, is also delicious and pairs nicely with just about anything. The last time I was here they had a ginger flavor that I’d tell you to at least ask for a taste. I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether or not it’s something you’d want to commit to in your cup or cone.
