Montepulciano, a medieval and Renaissance town lies on a hilltop in an amazing panoramic position. It is in the province of Siena in southern Tuscany and is one of the most attractive and highest hill towns in Tuscany with spectacular views of the surrounding vineyards. It’s built along a narrow limestone ridge and is 2000 feet above sea level. The town is encircled by walls and fortifications designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder in 1511.
