Rose Bakery in the 3rd Arrondissement is great if you’re looking for something a bit heartier than the traditional baguette and jam, with a slant towards the organic (they even have a few gluten-free treats). Everything is made right in front of you in the beautiful exposed kitchen, which puts focus on the vibrant and fresh ingredients. The aromas in the place are intoxicating, largely due to the fresh bread baking away, and cozy doesn’t even begin to describe this place on a rainy day. From muesli and porridge to to pancakes and quiche, the menu is quite varied, and ranges in price from 5.50€ for eggs and toast with marmite to 16€ for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. I went with the quiche, loaded with veggies and housed in a deliciously buttery crust, and served with two sides — I chose the green beans with red peppers and the sweet potatoes, which were wildly flavorful and just how I like them. Fresh bread and a slab of butter were served while I waited (I’ll have yours if you don’t want it), and was compliments of the house. Total damage: 14€.
