Pies, tarts, and meringues that rise towards the heavens, Le Loir dans la Théière is a mecca for desserts in the Marais. A friend brought me here two years ago when I was just beginning to explore the area, and it’s truly a place of dreams.
The seating is a bit of a hodgepodge, from spindly wooden numbers to deep, enveloping leather chairs, to granny velvet couches. But it’s the perfect compliment to the space, which sort of rambles on, a laundry list of nooks and crannies. It’s a bit like what I imagine the Weasley house to be, with something of a “catnap chic” look to the place.
The main draw are, of course, the desserts. You see them as soon as you walk in — they’re the beauties lined up on the counter, and you almost can’t help but think they’re just props. They look that good. But looks only get you so far in life, and these have beautiful souls as well. Apple tarts, rhubarb tarts, and rosemary peach tarts, just to name a few options. The merengue is my choice — sky high, with the perfect punch of citrus to keep you grounded.
