When the weather turns cold it seems like everyone heads straight for the black peacoat. Simple, utilitarian, it goes with everything. But it’s also a little bit boring, and I think adds to the general drear of the season. When the days are getting so much shorter and the winds are slapping you in the face, my tip is to take a risk on some more colorful options.

I’m in love with the color of this jacket, and it was a lucky score at a charity shop — the perfect place to take a risk or two with your wardrobe, all you have to do is search a little. I love this coat because while the color is quite loud, the jacket itself isn’t — it’s streamlined and super fitted, which means it actually comes across as a little more subdued then you initially might think.

I decided to go a little more extreme with the look, and paired with with a pair of biker boots and a pair of sunglasses with a stronger silhouette. I’m all about the keyhole frames, since they’re both classic and contemporary, and you don’t see them on everyone. I got these from Forever 21 for about $6, so again, this is a great place to try something new.
