Dough

Now, I don’t know if it’s just me, but where I grew up we had good donuts. Like, really good donuts. And there were several stores that all had different types — cake donuts, and yeast donuts, and everything in between. I’m all about it, and it’s one of my favorite things about visiting home. There’s just something about a good donut, and Dough in Flatiron/Brooklyn has hands down my favorite selection in New York.

Started in Brooklyn, this gourmet donut spot is the cream of the crop as far as I’m concerned. The flavors are wild and exotic, and combine European and Latin American influences to create wonderful concoctions that also boast organic ingredients. If the devil is in the details, these donuts are positively sinful.

I’ve visited the one in Flatiron and love the space — it has an industrial chic vibe befitting the Brooklyn roots of the company, and I love that there’s a glass wall at the back that allows you to see the kitchen. You can watch as donuts are made by hand by the staff, and it’s a great visual to enjoy while waiting in line.

My favorite is the Toasted Coconut, which combines a light and fluffy donut with the warm, buttery richness of toasted coconut. This is one of the lighter options, but it’s my standard go to.

The last time I was here I tried the Chocolate Salted Caramel, and it was indeed everything I thought it would be — the chocolate topping is decadent and rich, tempered by the fresh, doughy flavor of the donut.

Other flavors include Tropical Chili, Dulce de Leche, Cafe Au Lait, Lemon Poppy, Coconut Cream, and Blueberry — plus many more.
